Geil Kilns is presenting a 3-day workshop covering Coleman glazes and kiln firing.  Topics will include glaze applications, spraying techniques, firing in a Geil Downdraft Kiln and use of kiln controllers. Breakfast and lunch will be complimentary.

Tile: Making, Decorating, Marketing

This two-day lecture/demonstration shows how to make tile on the slab roller, extruder and tile press. It includes information on installation, and an extensive discussion of designing commission work, shows, selling, portfolios, and promotional literature. The second day is devoted to decorating, with demo of Paul’s unique style of glaze painting, as well as discussion of china painting, sume painting, silk-screening and airbrushing. Also included is a slide show of Paul’s work and historical and contemporary tile work.

April 16 & 17.  Explore the magic of primitive firing techniques using simple elements from nature. The resulting color and fire clouds provide a “canvas background” for surface design with non-fired art materials. Learn methods of color applications and textural surface treatments.

April 16 & 17.Finish and embellish decorative/utilitarian forms by adding handles, knobs, and feet and by using slip trailing, incising, sgraffito, and stenciling with colored slips. Use the placement and proportions of these elements to make a strong personal statement.
