Thrown and Altered Clay Works with Slip Decoration
Slide Show and Potluck: Friday the 27th at 7 p.m.
Workshop cost: $130
On Saturday Ron will show various throwing and altering techniques in making functional shapes using a red earthenware clay. Sunday will be a continuation of throwing pots plus Ron will demonstrate finishing and decorating the pieces using colored slips and stains.

Steven Hill has been a functional potter since 1974 who initially worked out of his backyard studio and sold his work mostly at art festivals. By the mid-1990s, he was looking for a way to expand his studio, to begin a resident artist program for aspiring potters, and to provide space for other ceramic artists to work. Located in Kansas City Missouri and housed in an old Red Star Yeast factory, Red Star Studios became the new home of Steven Hill Pottery in 1998.

This weekend workshop will focus on developing personal imagery with clay slips on plate and platter forms that have been dried to a leather hard stage. Using simple drape and drop mold techniques, we will create our platter and plate canvases. Surface decoration will enhance the forms that can be altered to make each one unique. All levels.
