CALL TO ARTISTS
Exhibition: Midstream: New Ceramics from the Heartland
Exhibition Dates: August 23, 2008 – February 28, 2009

Contact: Peter Held, Curator of Ceramics at peter.held@asu.edu

The Arizona State University Art Museum’s Ceramics Research Center, in an effort to define the front edge of experimental ceramic work, is looking for limited submissions for the exhibition Midstream: New Ceramics from the Heartland.   Artists in the Midwestern region of the U.S. can submit up to 5 low resolution digital images and a brief resume and statement. Artists residing in the following states are eligible: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Midstream will uncover the work of 5-7 artists or artist collectives that are defining a new generation of clay workers reflecting the dominance in the contemporary art world of artists from diverse backgrounds working with new issues of identity.  We are soliciting work that is bold in its commentary on global concerns and move to a broader examination of our humanity through humor, fantasy or direct honesty.

We are seeking artists that create with clay/mixed-media in a wide range of approaches: installation, performative, participatory or industrial.  Stipends for shipping costs are available.

Please submit via email only by May 23rd to: peter.held@asu.edu

The Ceramics Research Center was awarded the 2007 CLAY Award from the Friends of Contemporary Ceramics for lifetime advancement to the field.  For more information, please go to our website at:
